Family photography with a difference
Forget a stuffy studio, a family photoshoot feels like a walk in the woods, playing and having fun… because that’s what it is!
What to expect from a photoshoot with me… before the day we have a chat about who will be a part of your photoshoot, usually it’s parents and children, but often includes extended family, so uncles, aunts, grandparents… sometimes family pets too, I’ve photographed pets from dogs and cats to horses and sheep! Next up we’ll decide on a spot to meet up, I love being in the woods so will often suggest a woodland. I am also a qualified Forest School Leader so will suggest little activities and fun things to do while on the photoshoot. Once you’ve booked a date, we can arrange a time and place to meet up.
People often ask what to wear on the day and I mostly say whatever you feel comfortable in. However it really depends what you want from your photos, you can dress up or down, coordinate with your family or not. High vis is probably the only thing that I’d discourage!
On the day I meet you at a pre arranged spot (I’ll be the person looking a bit lost with a camera), introduce myself to everyone and then we can head off for a walk. I will let you all walk and chat and play while I am somewhat in the background taking pictures. If you want any more posed photos I will stop you and guide you on where and how to stand, however my style is really informal and I’m more likely to just be in the background capturing the beautiful moments I see.
I have gotten to the end of shoots before and families have worried that I haven’t got any photos, but I always have, in fact I’ve always taken lots more than planned! The idea is that you should be relaxed and making lovely family memories, I’m just there to capture them without intruding.
Once we’ve said our goodbyes I will head home and most likely get straight down to editing. I will tell myself I will only edit one or two… but it’s entirely likely I’ll be sending you most of your photos pretty soon after you photoshoot because I am a giddy and over excited photographer! I send all the images digitally for you to download, I send both small and large files, this means you have ones that are great for sharing online and others for developing (as much as you want, they are your images to keep!). So, no pressure sales, no having to make hard choices about which photos to keep, all the edited photos are yours to keep and tresure forever.
